Sometimes you'll hear my characters talk about family recipes. Some of them are completely made up.
But others are very real, either from my own family or recipes that I have used and tweaked. I thought I'd share some of my favorites with you.

Secret Salsa
Secret Salsa HA! No way. This recipe is taught from mother to daughter only (or daughter-in-law in certain circumstances), and it is never to be written down. Ever.
This is inspired by my chicken wing dip recipe. There was an actual written recipe that I started from, and then I made alterations to some of the ingredients. Okay, to all five ingredients. And I added a sixth. I do not follow any of the measurements in the original recipe, nor do I use the same measurements every time I make it. Said dip has won every chicken wing dip contest it's ever been in, and if I bring it to a party it disappears before I've even had any, so clearly I'm doing something right!
And I'm never going to tell anyone how I make it until I'm on my deathbed. Even then, it will depend who asks.

Alvarez Margaritas
'Alvarez' MargaritasInvented by Joe and I, we sometimes call this a Long Island Lemonade, a play on the Long Island Iced Tea due to the combination of liquor.
Also due to the combination and amount... it will fuck you up. The vodka flavors are interchangeable, though fruity flavors are the way to go. Peach is a favorite replacement, as is Strawberry-lemonade. |
In a shaker combine:
Shake vigorously Rim glass with salt or sugar Pour over ice |
You can, of course, blend with ice and
make this a slushy beverage instead. |
Cheesy Chicken Enchiladas
Prep: Preheat oven to 350°F
Lightly grease a 13x9 inch pan |
Cheesy Chicken Enchiladas |
I usually double the spices here, especially the adobo.
We also like to use queso fresco and cotija cheese. |

You'll only need one large pot and a bowl to set aside the chicken
(I sometimes multitask and cook the chicken in a smaller pan while the peppers are cooking in the large pot, then add the chicken to the large pot per step 4)
