I have a theory that my skin color and the fact that I have one visible tattoo are involved, but I can't prove it; it's only speculation. There was a suspicious meeting held shortly after I was "let go" that talked about the dress code. Mind you, we've never had a meeting about the dress code, and there was a simple verbal understanding that we were business casual, and casual Fridays. Nothing in writing.
At this meeting, it was mentioned that there could be no facial piercings or visible tattoos. Here's my question: My tattoo is five years old. It was there when you hired me. It's been there this whole time. If it was a problem, why didn't you tell me? Coincidentally, I'm the only one (it's a small company, maybe 30 people in the office) that had an visible tattoo. And it's a freaking flower with a cervical cancer ribbon, it's on the inside of my wrist, about the size of the palm of my hand. No one has facial piercings, and I'm the only one with the tattoo. Interesting.
Another thing that was mentioned was hair. "Nothing big or wild." Hmmm... again, interestingly enough, I let my hair air dry for all of last week, needing to give it a break from the blowdryer and flatiron. As such, it was kind of big. Like... Oprah big. Except, being mixed, different sections of my hair have different textures, and the only time they agree to be the same is when I burn the life out of them with the the flatiron. But, since I was going natural, they went their separate ways. So, part of my hair looked like Oprah on the left, and part of it looked like Oprah on the right. Imagine it in layers. Big curls on the bottom, the tiny curls on top.
Whatever.
So that has left my jobless, which is both a blessing and a curse. Curse because, obviously, no money is coming in. Blessing because I'm no longer doing the work of 4 people, and once I've done my daily job search, I get to enjoy Popmundo time! Yay.
