Though there were a few times I thought jail would be worth it.
This girlfriend of my brother's is a bitch. She's mean and controlling to my nephew, yelling at him for everything. I mean everything..
But then tells him he's going to respect her because she's an adult. Doesn't work that way, honey.
I honestly don't think she likes kids very much, which scares me that at one point she was a teacher. I caught her giving death glares to parents of kids who ran in front of her. Hello, we're at Disney. There are kids all over the place.
When we went to the animal kingdom, which is huge and spread out all over, we had scheduled ride times with our fast passes. There were really very few things there that he would be able to do, so we wanted to work around that. Oh, and mind you, she booked all our fast passes, and most of them were rides he can't even go on.
So mom and I were trying to figure out a plan for the day, and then we decided maybe it should be an early day. This kid is exhausted, we keep getting back to our room at 11 and he's not getting enough sleep. So then she gives my mom this smug look and was like, "You actually think we're gonna see everything by 6?" Fuck you bitch. I think by 6 he's gonna be exhausted and crabby and then you're gonna be screaming at him for being whiny. So if you keep your mouth shut, then sure we'll stay later.
Oh - OH!
This one line that almost had my hand coming across her face: "He needs to understand this is not about him." Actually bitch, it is. The entire trip is about him. She got pissy because he wanted to get back in line for the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. She didn't want to stand in line, she wanted to go do something else. Well, HE wants to go on this ride, regardless of the 45 minute wait. So that's what we're going to do.
So finally my mom snapped at her, so did I.
Amazingly enough, she stopped constantly yelling at my nephew. Even MORE amazingly (or not really amazing, since we knew this would happen) his behavior got so much better. Duhhhhh
I swear, they pester him until he gets frustrated and crabby, then they yell at him for being whiny and talking back. Self fulfilling prophecy.
I mean, he's 5. He's not a statue. He's at Disney. He's excited, he's overwhelmed, and he's exhausted. And once again, he's 5. He hasn't learned that bit of self control to not react when you feel like crap.
When we met Anna and Elsa from frozen, he was exhausted and way overheated by then, so every thing is the end of the world when you feel like that. The little strap that holds the pen to his autograph book broke, so he was upset. Then he saw the girls and freaked out a bit. Every character we'd met by then we're all costume characters. Mickey and his crew, Rafiki, Stitch, Buzz Lightyear, Woody, all characters that look every bit as cartoony as they look in their movies.
But Anna and Elsa were real. So he got nervous, started crying, and kept trying to leave. They were starting to pull him out. Then he calmed down a bit and said he didn't want to leave. They didn't listen to what he was saying, and so they're still trying to leave. Now he's getting louder, because clearly he feels they aren't listening or can't hear him, now they're on his case for yelling.
And then this is the thing that kills me. They're all 'he's the child, we're the adults.' So they're all about the 'when we say something, that's final' shit. Too damn bad. He's an inquisitive kid. He doesn't just do things because someone tells him too, he like to know the 'why' behind it. Oh, and of course when they force him to apologize to them for talking back or acting up, if he says he's sorry, they demand to know what he's sorry for. So, he needs to explain why he's apologizing, but you don't need to explain why you're yelling in his face?
Then later we were waiting for a parade, he was standing in the street, and they were both like get over here, get over here, get over here. He's getting irritated, you can see it on his face, and he's like, No, I want to see! I said, you need to come over here because that's where the parade needs to go, and you can see it from right here when it goes by.
Guess what? Immediately came over.
They just piss me off.
